Love/Hate Relationship

Most of the time I really love my DVR.  It makes watching any TV realistic for us.  We love the random & obscure channels but also find much network programing to be enjoyable.  This is one of the few entertainment avenues we actually pay for.  But we rarely can watch anything when it is actually broadcast.

Bryan has been on afternoon shift most of his working life so he has missed prime time totally for the most part.  I used to tape (yep, tape) shows for him on the VCR (the what?).  Now he can watch the news or history shows or classic movies after midnight and while he's doing his gun/bow repair/customization stuff.

I have worked day, afternoon, midnight, swing, split--you name it.  But even when I am not forced to it by working, I seem to naturally fall into an afternoon schedule.  My most effortlessly productive times are after 5 pm and go until 1 or 2 in the morning.  I can be productive at other times, but it takes focus and attention.  So I don't take time for watching programs until after that even though I'm always doing the budget, or working on a 4-H lesson, or going over care group materials (or blogging!) at the same time.

So I really like the DVR feature.  Today it's driving me crazy.  All I'm trying to do is finish watching the Steeler game before I find out accidentally.  So I'm secluding myself.  But today the cable box is not just being sluggish and needing reset, but it actually keeps shutting off before the end of the recording for no apparent reason.  I've exhausted my limited ability to trouble shoot.  I have restarted the recording twice now, having to fast forward through the first three quarters each time.  Oh, no, there it goes again!  I think I saw 2 more plays than last time.  Plus I'm multitasking as usual, so not paying 100% attention to what it is doing.

Poo, I guess I'm calling the cable company to reset my box.  Hopefully that will fix it.
