The next thing I did was read the first few verses in several different translations and paraphrases.
I noticed that the King James version uses the word sanctified to represent "agapeo" instead of loved as most of the other translations do. Even in the reputable ones. This intrigued me since there's much more to sanctification than there is to love as we know it. I did a LOT of reading about this. I read multiple translations, commentaries, and entries in the Strong's concordance and haven't found a satisfactory answer to this inconsistency. Not actually addressed at all.
So either KJV is a poor translation of this verse, there's a better translation, or there's a lot more to the concept of love than I expect. Which I know we 21st century Americans have a shallow distorted view of love, so I should realize my initial thought is untrustworthy, and actually that shouldn't be my default any longer!
