Childhood Memories

We were reminiscing today about how Dave and Darlene met and got married. Bryan was about 5 when that happened and he said he remembered his adoption.

Darlene and Bryan were living in a rather poor predicament at that time recovering from the bad relationship with his biological dad. They said one day Dave came to visit Darlene before they had even talked about marriage. They called Bryan from out playing and heard him say to his friends, "I have to go; my Dad's here!" We were joking that Bryan was the one who proposed marriage to Dave instead of Dave to Darlene!

Their financial situation improved dramatically and the family dynamics improve dramatically. Bryan said during this conversation that when the adoption happened he was concerned. That surprised me because it has always been portrayed to me that it was a relief and a rescue when that happened. So I asked him what in the world made him concerned.

He said,"Well, I knew how to spell Bowen but I didn't know how to spell Taylor."

What a sweet thing for a little six-year-old to be thinking of at a monumental time like that. Especially little Bryan who struggled with reading.

Married almost 32 years and never heard this story.
