Books of the Bible--Kings and Chronicles

Kings and Chronicles are two accounts that were each too long to be contained in one scroll. That's why there is a first and second.

The book of 1st Kings begins with David's son Solomon and continues through basically every single King until the nation was destroyed. Kings and Chronicles cover the same period of history. Some stories are covered in only one and some have more or less details than the other.

After Solomon's heart was revealed by his request for wisdom, God blessed him with that and more. His reign was the golden age for Israel. However his son didn't use as much wisdom and because of his policies, the kingdom was split in two.

The books continue to follow and recount the divided kingdoms through good and bad kings--mostly bad!--until they are both captured by foreigners. Israel first, then Judah. Also some prophets are covered who are known from the books of prophecy.

Some names that might be familiar:
Kings      Asa, Josiah, Jehoshaphat, Ahab and Jezebel,
Prophets    Elijah, Elisha,
