Bathroom Reno

So Melissa has been coming over every chance she gets to scrub at the ceiling in our bathroom because the mildew gathers on it. Today we decided it was past hope because we're just rescrubbing it over and over. So we decided to pull the ceiling down, get rid of the plaster and put up new drywall, then seal it with special bathroom paint.

We will be replacing the bathtub and surround also and possibly some of the wall depending on what mold or damage we find when we take out the current fixtures.

Day 1:

After deciding to replace the ceiling, we had to verify that it was plaster, not drywall.

Then we went and bought an exhaust fan, vent, and light. Gulp! We priced tubs and surrounds as well. Double gulp!!!

Day 2:

UP                                                                                                            DOWN

                                                                                                                                                covering the toilet and sink
Pulling up the insulation

                                                    Removing the light fixture

                                             Down comes the ceiling!!

Watch for falling plaster! lol

watch for falling ceiling!

                                          Ceiling? What ceiling?!

Look how thick the plaster was!!! It was ridiculous heavy! We covered the fixtures with cardboard so they wouldn't get damaged!

Covering the opening with a tarp so there's a barrier between the bathroom and the attic rafters (dust, spiders, bats???)

Didn't get any good pictures of the cleanup. We picked up the big pieces and carried them out in a box and shoveled the rest of the debris out the window into a garbage can.

wipe, sweep, vacuum, dust, mop, Repeat!

Rigging up some kind of light--with no light!

Get some rest now because tomorrow is Day 3!
