Mini Vacay

We couldn't get all four of us together at the same time to go on a real vacation this spring, so Monday we took a one-day trip. We went to the Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh and had dinner at a nearby eatery.  We were going to walk around and visit the Point but it was cold and rainy, and parking was a HUGE deterrent!

Note Heinz Field in the background:

Most of the displays in the center were only of moderate interest. Must be why people usually bring their children! Well, we're big kids, but oh well.

We enjoyed the space displays, and the human body activities, and the robot section was cool. Lots of live animals to observe and water to play in.

Our favorite was the huge model railroad layout.

It had sections for each season of the year, and many, many fun and unique dioramas--a campfire, a carnival, a trolley, a riverboat, a small town in mid parade!

The lights would dim periodically to simulate
the sun going down, then in a few minutes,
grow brighter to simulate the daytime.

Next stop: USS Requin--retired submarine!
