Recently I've been reading through (well, actually listening to) part of the story of Joseph in Genesis 37. He had a lot of growing up to do at that point of his life. He did some things that were not very wise -- repeatedly.
He had a dream and he told his brothers and it caused them to become even more jealous than they already had been, so what does he do? He has another dream and he tells them again. You'd think he would have learned his lesson.
He was his father's favorite because he was born to Rachel, the wife that his father had originally chosen. And also because she was barren for so long that by the time she had Joseph and his brother, Benjamin, Jacob was quite old. I would think that Joseph would realize the dynamics that favoritism caused in the family and to try to avoid exacerbating. It instead Joseph tattletaled on his brothers and, I have to double-check, but I think that was more than once as well.
This is typical of behavior of a seventeen-year-old. No wonder God didn't bring his plan into fulfillment until many years later when Joseph was much older and wiser!
I pray I recognize this if/when it happens in my life!
