Don’t Let Yourself Be Misled, Part 2
The Three Steps of Bible Study
Nothing can be interpreted or applied until it is determined what it is that is being discussed. In Part one we covered how to do this. Here we will continue to move through the steps of Bible Study.
Step Two: Interpretation
Next, analyze the information. Reflect on the passage and ask, “What does it mean?”
Find out who, what, where, when, how, why. A promise or command may be directed at a specific person or group and not necessarily be meant for anyone else.
Step Three: Application/Implication
Last, use the information. Avail yourself and make use of the passage. Ask, “How does this apply to me? What is the implication for me? How should my attitude or actions change in light of this passage?”
It’s impossible to know what a passage means without knowing what it says. A passage shouldn’t be applied until it is understood. Equally so, if a passage is studied and never applied, it hasn’t been allowed to reach its purpose.
Let’s allow Scripture to reach its full impact by following all 3 steps of Bible study and doing them in order.
