The next three sets of books are each divided into part 1 and part 2, 1st and 2nd, because they were long enough that they could not be contained in one scroll. Samuel tells, of course, the story of Samuel who was the last of the judges. And it tells how he helped establish the kingship and guided the first two kings of Israel.
Some stories that are probably familiar to you are God calling the child Samuel while he thought it was a human person calling him, one of his first Acts as judge to condemn the priest who trained him, how the people asked for a King instead of a judge, the anointing of Saul as the first king of Israel and his failure and rejection by God, also Sauls jealousy of his successor, his questionable dalliance with a medium, and his untimely death ultimately by his own hand.
Some stories are definitely familiar to almost everyone such as the stories of David being anointed by Samuel and almost overlooked because he was the youngest and was out watching the sheep, the story of David and Goliath, and later the story of David and Bathsheba.
