It's funny how random thoughts from different parts of my life can come together in ways that God can use to help me understand a truth.
This morning before church I had an episode of a home improvement show on while I was eating my breakfast. Then at church we sang the song Heart of Worship which I have sung probably hundreds of times over many many years.
Today one line really struck me: "You're looking into my heart." That line makes me a little nervous. I cringe when I think of what God sees when He looks into my heart. It made me think of those people on the renovation shows who are being shown houses.
Many times I have seen a couple walk into a house and say, "It smells in here!" A few times they have taken one look at the outside and not even bothered to go in to check it out at all. They don't like the style, or the amount of work, or the expense.
But the thought came to me that God is not like those homeowners. He is more like the contractor--"This is all just cosmetic; we can rip this out; I'll put in brand-new; you won't recognize it; this can be your dream home; I'll make it beautiful!"
That's what Jesus says when He looks into my heart. "I can fix this, I can rip out the old stinky stuff, I can make this beautiful!"
Today I say, "Keep going with the renovation, Lord!"
And the contractor never says, "Don't pick this house because it's beyond me." No matter what house the homeowners choose, the contractor always has a plan for it. And the homeowners are always thrilled with the results!
No matter who you are or what your heart looks like, God has a plan. It's not beyond Him. You will be thrilled with what He can do!
