And the Shofar Blew by Francine Rivers
I was amazed that this book captivated me for over 400 pages. It is the story of a pastor and his wife who work to revitalize a dying church. They do so successfully--from the outside, but "many shall say, Lord, Lord" and He will say, "I never knew you."
It is so subtle how the pastor was drawn away from truly serving God to actually using his service to build up himself instead of God. Will he realize his mistake before the church and his family are both sacrifices?
The characters show such realistic situations that combine a true heart for God and honest struggles. It is easy to see how anyone could be led this way and we should take heed to be ever more alert and diligent in our own lives. Perhaps the characters in this story go much farther than you have, perhaps you have gone even farther.
