Well, temperatures over the weekend stayed in the freezing range. The snow only melted off in selected spots. The roof was not one of them! It was treacherous footing up there, and of course the place where the shingles need attention is at the very top near the peak and against the driveway--which is a long way down! Needless to say, Bryan did NOT try getting up there to fix the roof.
Today, it started raining. And kept on raining. All day. I (pathetically preoccupied) did not give it a thought all day. When Bryan got home, he went straight up to the attic to investigate, and sure enough it was dripping quite vigorously in that spot. :( :( :( I scrambled to bring a bucket up to him and keep it from making an even bigger mess. Thankfully we don't have anything stored up there. Surely no permanent damage would result if it is fixed in a week or so. It seems to me it would take longer than that for the wood to rot and it should dry out and be fine.
