I have been struck lately by how many Bible verses I still can recall because of the fact that they were in a song. Many, many songs that used to be sung in churches were word-for-word Scripture! Of course it helped with consistency that the only reputable translation then was King James Version. It was also before CCLI and video projectors, so if it wasn't a hymn, it was a songbook printed on a "ditto" machine or on plastic sheets on a light projector!
It makes sense that most of them were just "choruses" that we sang 4-5 times over. I would love to see them remixed with today's technology and style!
I am going to share some as they come to mind throughout the next several weeks. Here is Great is the Lord" taken directly from Psalm 48. Our musicians did an arrangement with some echoing and extra bridges: let's go up to Zion. sing hallelujah, there's oil and wine in Zion.
Great Is the Lord
