Reno and Rain

After church, we actually got some more done on the bathroom renovation. We set and leveled the tub which was not quick or easy. It's almost impossible to see behind or under it, let alone reach there!

We then were able to install the final piece of drywall. Now that huge sheet of drywall is no longer standing against the wall in the hallway blocking the light switch!

Next job was to fit the shower surround. It would not slide into place for the same reason that the tub wouldn't -- because of the heavy 2x4 from the architectural arch. So sawzall to the rescue again. We already removed the arch feature but it's not necessary to tear out the whole support structure from it which would be a lot of work because it's attached to the walls and plumbing supports.

We stopped to eat supper at this point. It was 95 degrees so I moved the toaster oven out onto the back porch and plugged it in there to cook our pizzas. The wind started picking up from an incoming storm. The toaster oven barely had time to cool down enough to be carried back inside before the storm hit.

Back to work. We cut a notch in the 2x4 for the lip of the surround just like we did for the lip of the tub.

We were making good progress again when the power went out. 🙄 It had been pretty hot and humid, now it was worse with no fans! We stood in the doorway to get any air that was coming in but the wind was so wild it was actually **slamming** the rain onto our faces and getting everything wet inside.

We just put the surround back into the hallway and packed up for the day. As soon as it calmed down enough to be safe, Joe and Melissa went home and we went to David's. We sat on his covered porch until the rain quit and the power came back on. It was out about 2 hours.
