Not long ago I bought a new kind of air freshener for my bathroom. It is the kind with a dispenser that is battery operated. You put the aerosol can into the dispenser and set the timer. Then at the interval you selected, the dispenser depresses the aerosol can and squirts out a blast of the air freshener scent.
It took a while to find a scent that Bryan and I both like. And it definitely has made the bathroom smell good. But there are some side effects.
It was not easy to find a place to set it where the blast would not go straight into your face, or onto your clothing. There's no warning and you can't tell how far through its cycle it is before the next blast.
Last night I got up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. And suddenly without warning the timer went off and squirted a blast of air freshener. In the wee small hours of the night it sounded as loud as a gunshot! I'm getting used to hearing the sound of it dispensing from wherever I happen to be in the house, but sometimes, especially when I'm occupied with something (ahem) it scares me half to death.
