Today at church we had a speaker who works with churches, orphanages, schools, and colleges all around the world. He travels continuously and spends time in Africa, the Caribbean, and Asia.
He told a story about one place where he had been robbed, beaten, and abducted. They did this and demanded a ransom of $100,000. It was a long twisted process how he was delivered from this situation but eventually God restored to him his freedom and passport.
When he finally spoke to his wife, she said she was so happy God intervened because she had no ideas where they ever would have gotten a tiny part of so high a ransom and that he would have been captive a long long time if it were left to their own resources.
It made me think of how God paid MY ransom.
If I had been held captive in that country, I probably would have racked my brain trying to think how to come up with enough money to buy my release. I'd go through my family, then my friends, and I'd have to go down to acquaintances and still be nowhere near collecting enough.
It is even worse with spiritual ransom.
